u touched my heart
Lovely old folk song from Puerto Rico; an ode to the island its capital from the point of view of one who had to leave and could never return.

En mi Viejo San Juan -- Trio Los Panchos
In My Old San Juan
Translated by: minumi_hime

En mi viejo San Juan
Cuantos sueños forjé
En mis noches de infancia
Mi primera ilusión
Y mis quitas de amor
Son recuerdos del alma

In my Old San Juan
I forged so many dreams
In the nights of my infancy
My first hopes
And my romances
Are memories of my soul

Una tarde me fui
A esa extraña nación
Pues lo quiso el destino
Pero mi corazón
Se quedó frente al mar
En mi viejo San Juan

One afternoon I left
To that foreign country
As that was how destiny wanted it
But my heart
stayed in front of the sea
In my Old San Juan

Adiós (adiós, adiós)
Borinquen querida
(Dueña de mi amor)
Adiós (adiós, adiós)
Mi diosa del mar
(Mi reina del palmar)
Me voy (ya me voy)
Pero un día volveré
A buscar mi querer
A soñar otra vez
En mi viejo San Juan

Farewell (farewell, farewell)
Precious Borinquen
(Owner of my love)
Farewell (farewell, farewell)
My goddess of the sea
(My queen of the palms)
I leave (now I leave)
But one day I shall return
To seek my love
To dream once again
In my Old San Juan

Pero el tiempo pasó
Y el destino burló
Mi terrible nostalgia
Y no pude volver
Al San Juan que yo amé
Pedacito de patria

But time passed by
And destiny mocked
My awful nostalgia
And I could not return
To the San Juan that I loved
(My) little piece of homeland

Mi cabello blanqueo
Ya mi vida se va
Ya la muerte me llame
Y no quiero morir
Alejado de tí
Puerto Rico del alma, adiós

My hair became white
Now life is leaving me
Now death calls me
And I don't want to die
So far away from you
Puerto Rico of my soul, farewell

Notes: Okay this one gave me a bit of trouble due to the flexibility of Spanish syntax, which can obstruct translation greatly into a language with much stricter syntax such as English. There is also no punctuation again, therefore I had to make educated guesses as to where phrases began and ended. Overall, I’m pleased with the results, although future revisions may occur.

BillyxTeddy - embrace

Notes: Well, pretty simple stuff this time. Just some added words within the brackets for clarification purposes. This song is closer to the original Japanese lyrics, which really are so much more meaningful than the English version. It’s kinda sad that it was lost in it’s to translation to English, I’m really glad the Spanish version was able to retain it.

This is a translation of an English translation of the orginal Japanese Lyrics. I do not know enough Japanese to directly translate to the Spanish, and I DID NOT translation into the English found here. The translator for the English is unknown. I translated te English provided into Spanish. These are truly gorgeous and powerful lyrics. Enjoy!

Notes: This song was an interesting challenge in that it was tough to interpret in Spanish exactly what was being said. Thankfully, I own the CD with the actual lyrics insert; otherwise this would have turned out very differently. This is the structure of the official lyrics, and it makes a HUGE difference for the interpretation of this song. The lyrics themselves weren’t particularly challenging, luckily. Well, enjoy!

I posted a rotation in my Mp3 Comm with a lot of soft meaningful music because I was feeling down about the tragic events at VT (the university in Virginia where there was a terrible shooting) and I translated the lyrics to this song which I think is the most appropriate of the whole rotation. It began as a  beautiful poem written by Chile's Violeta Parra; in it she gives thanks to life for giving her so much of everything that allows her to enjoy life. It is BEAUTIFUL, and I hope my translation has done it justice.

BillyxTeddy - embrace
This is an amazing ballad done by this usually upbeat Japanese Group. Now I didn't translate this, but I posted it here cuz I wanted to make it available to the members of my Mp3 Comm. These lyrics are so meaningful. I hope the boys continue to write more songs like this!!

BillyxTeddy - embrace

Perhaps I am biased, but why is it that love songs in Spanish are so utterly poetic? This song is literally metaphor after metaphor; it's like they're all having some sort of poetic orgy, seriously. It's something I would categorize as a deliriously in Love song. Check out the poetic insanity . . .

This is my absolute favorite track from her very first album of the same title. It was but a sample of the lyrical genius that we would see in her second album, ¿Dónde están los ladrones? This song is a light and witty criticism about how we live and love within the boundaries society has set for us.
